Top 8 Areas at Home You Should Clean before Moving Out

There are a lot of cleaning-related tasks to keep in mind as you prepare to move. However, there are several locations that people frequently overlook.

In this post, find a list of the most frequently overlooked areas, from our experience of completing hundreds of move-in and move-out cleanings, so you can leave the house spotless for the new owners.

Before you begin moving in, you should recheck these areas if your new home wasn’t left as immaculate as you’d want. You can also learn where to find a maid service in Hoboken through this article.

Top 8 Areas to Dust and Clean

Dusting is one of the most crucial and straightforward things you can do to keep your home clean, even though it doesn’t belong to a particular area of your home. The areas on the list below require dusting:

Baseboards

Although baseboard cleaning is one of the least favorite household tasks, making them sparkle is rather simple!

After a quick wipe-down with a moist cloth, you’re done. Just be sure to finish it after everything has been removed, and don’t skip any areas blocked by furniture.

Cabinets

You should thoroughly clean the interior and outside of every cabinet in your home, including those in the kitchen, bathroom, laundry area, and even the garage.

Make a gentle cleaning solution with water and light soap. Keep moisture away from the hinges to avoid rusting, and clean all surfaces to get rid of any dirt.

Also, keep in mind to leave the doors open for a few hours so the interior can air out. Mildew shouldn’t start to grow inside your cabinets.

Ceiling Fan

It must not be dirty if you can’t see it, right? Wrong! Your ceiling fan’s blades attract a lot of dust, yet all they require is a wipe-down.

Doorknobs, Outlet Covers, and Switch Covers

This final one is little, but the devil is in the details, as the saying goes. Rub alcohol, or even common household cleaners can be used to clean and disinfect any doorknobs, light switches, and outlet covers throughout the house (NOT the light switch itself!).

Use a q-tip to remove it from the little spaces. Knobs, switches, and covers must be thoroughly cleaned to stop the spread of bacteria.

Intake Fans

Even if you believe you’ve cleaned your refrigerator entirely, there’s a good chance you overlooked (or perhaps weren’t even aware of) the intake fan at the bottom.

If you have dogs, remove the plastic grill and vacuum the fan. This area needs to be cleaned frequently because pet hair accumulates, not just when you move.

You likely use your stove daily, just like your refrigerator.

However, all of that oil is pulled up into an intake fan located beneath your microwave, where it can swiftly assemble. Clean this carefully, and while you’re at it, clean the microwave’s interior thoroughly.

Not to add that the intake fan in your bathroom probably needs to be serviced. The fan gets quite dirty and dusty since everyone in the home takes a shower every day.

Interior Appliance

One area we find that is frequently ignored is the inside of the oven. You can use a commercial cleaner, a mixture of water and baking soda, or even the self-cleaning function of your range. Just be aware that there is a warming drawer underneath as well.

The worst scenario is moving into a new house with a bad-smelling refrigerator. If you remove all the shelves and drawers, you can thoroughly clean, disinfect, and deodorize the area without worrying that you’ll leave the new owners with the scents from last month’s takeout.

Remove any remaining dust from the top and give the exterior one last cleaning. If you need help, you can also look for move-out cleaning services.

Lighting Fixtures

When the fixture and bulb are clean, the light feels brighter and shines more throughout the room. They gather a LOT of dust.

Because dust can cause the bulbs to overheat and blow, they will last longer when they are clean.

Wooden Blinds

Despite the fact that it can be a tiresome process, it has a big effect. Nobody wants to look out their windows and see dirt and grime flying everywhere.

Behind the toilet and atop the showerhead:

Even though cleaning some of these stains might not have occurred to you, once you do, you won’t ever miss them again!

Conclusion

While it may be tempting to overlook some more hidden areas in your home when preparing for a move, it is also important to remember to clean them. Not only will taking the time to clean these areas make your new home feel more welcoming, but it will also help you avoid any unwanted surprises down the road. Lastly, if you’re already too busy, you can always opt to hire a cleaning service in Hoboken!
